COUNCILLOR BARRY PHELPS HAS RESIGNED

COUNCILLOR MARK DALEY HAS RESIGNED

Councillor Barry Phelps (Conservative - Earl's Court Ward), and Councillor Mark Daley (Conservative - Cremorne Ward),  both of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have today, 5 July 2010, resigned their seats on the Council.  This was ahead of a formal complaint made against Barry Phelps which was to be before the Initial Assessment Sub-Committee of the Standards' Committee on Wednesday, 7 July 2010.  As you will see below, the reasons for the resignation of Councillor Barry Phelps include the distribution by email, using the Council's email server, of child sexual abuse images of young boys to a select group of recipients.  Councillor Mark Daley was one of these recipients and has resigned.

The resignation of both Councillors will trigger a by-election in both the Earl's Court ward, and Cremorne ward, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
